- Mon,10 Nov 2025
The 26th V.V. John Memorial Inter-school Debate was held at St. Anne’s Senior Secondary School, Jodhpur, with the same energy and anticipation that this annual event has carried for over two decades. The debate, instituted in the memory of Professor V.V. John, a scholar, educationist, and orator par excellence, continues to serve as a platform where young voices express thoughtful opinions on issues that shape our world.
The morning began on a serene note with a prayer and the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Principal, Dr. John Abraham; Vice-Principal, Ms. Tessy Joseph, and the panel of judges Ms. Shilpa Mridul, Ms. Sevantika Bhandari, and Dr. Aarti Kothari. Their presence added immense warmth and inspiration to the occasion. A brief yet graceful cultural performance by Aaditri Vyas and her team set the tone for an intellectually charged morning.
The topic for the debate — “Democracy Could Slide into Authoritarianism Without a Strong and Vigilant Opposition”, invited both reflection and spirited discussion. Participants from sixteen schools across Jodhpur presented powerful arguments, blending logic, emotion, and conviction. Each speaker brought a distinct perspective, reminding everyone that democracy thrives not just on agreement, but also on the courage to question.
After several rounds of passionate speeches and well-measured rebuttals, the judges announced the results. Incidentally, the First Position was shared by two participants.
The following is the result:
- Best Speaker: Aarohi Bhattacherjee, Rajmata Krishna Kumari Girls’ Public School & Sagarika Singh, Happy Hours School
